drama packed day

Well - we haven't actually done much I have to say. Woke up this morning to hear that 2 men had fallen overboard on YuuZoo but back on safely, then that the boat had nearly sunk so  a lot of our time has been reading reports and watching the tracker. The boat retired with a lot of structural damage they say and headed back to Eden where hopefully they are safe and sound but I expect all rather weary. No doubt we will hear the full story from Grant at some stage. In many ways I am glad they are not battling across Bass Strait in the wind. Instead we are looking forward to seeing him sail SLAM in March in Sydney. Much more our style. What it means is that Grant will still never have been to Tasmania......
I have told Bruce to be very careful riding his bike.... We have also been watching the cricket - something we don't usually do but it is all a wee bit fascinating this round especially with the captain blowing a gasket.

I have woven up another piece of slow cloth - I have machine stitched it for the moment but I will hand stitch now - I might put one of my ferns on it - who knows? This is a new interesting fabric for experimenting which I will have as a kit as soon as the roll of it arrives for me to cut up and package. I have managed to get quite a bit of dimension which pleases me. I am not sure how I am going to put all of these together - I am not a quilt maker but I may link them up as big slow cloth. Who knows....

Carolyn - thanks for your lovely message - I visit your blogs often and  am always  inspired.

Lyn - what you suggest sounds great - and I will have to do some hand stitch but do post pics when you get done. I might do some weaving with some first. I have to admit I could have ironed faster but it was a  hot day. It is worth ironing the sari ribbon out though. I haven't done any more to my piece but I have plans for top decoration. And of course if it is to be a cushion it will need a back. Does it need to be a cushion? Was going to today but got a little sidetracked. In fact we were going to go to the movies but that will be tomorrow - we couldn't drag ourselves away from the 'puters and telly. But we are going off to get fish and chips and take them down to  the river where there might just be a sea breeze - it has been 40 today.

I also have a couple of pages of my pages for The Sketchbook Project - the deadline will loom up fast. Mine is titled This is Not a Sketchbook so it isn't. The pages are pretty flimsy so I have cut some out and replaced and gessoed some together. Still a way to go though. The paper on the left is a photcopy of some of my stitch and I have still to finish this page.
I am sure you can pick the theme I have chosen and Doreen you will be pleased to hear that I found some wonderful paper napkins in NZ - all about the kiwi pavlova........

May everyone else's day be  filled with less excitement.......

Dale, have been following the race too and was sorry to see YuuZoo pulling out but glad to see that they are safe and sound. Maybe they'll give it a go next year! It must have been very concerning for you. Gill (ex Gooseberry Hill)!

Never boring your lot. Tell Grant that if he can't take his car on the boat, it's not worth going to Tassie anyway.

So do I get a pavlova paper napkin?

Am sure the crew will be gutted but better all safe ... phew, bet you were both on tenderhooks for a while there!

So frustrating for YuuSoo's crew, but what a relief they are all safe. Your woven slowcloth is looking good and your Not Sketchbook pages are gorgeous. Hope you caught that sea breeze.

I hope by now you've heard from Grant. Frustrating to have that experience but good that they are hopefully all safe now. I think I may follow your lead and start a woven slow cloth. I have to work on small pieces for hand sewing as my hands cause me some problems but I do enjoy hand work. Your Sketchbook looks exciting. I hope you get it finished in time.

I hope that Grant is safe and well, though I'm sure that he will be disappointed.

Great to see that you've been so creative, during a very busy time of the year!
