many thanks

Many thanks for all the messages - our relations are all safe - not necessarily their houses but it has been reassuring to hear that they are okay. I guess it is all a bit surreal (yes I know that is the buzz word). This is the Carlton hotel - one of our drinking holes when we were students and before I met him, the place where Ian got caught under age drinking .Above as it was and below as it is. Christchurch will never again be the place we went to university but I hope they can rebuild and be stronger than ever. Who would have thought it? Coming from north of Wellington, I spent my youth waiting for the big one to hit there. It has been a bad summer down under (and in many other places of course) but I am hoping everything will be on the improve in the autumn

Glad your family and friends are OK Dale, it must have been terrifying for them. Mother nature's been giving us all a hard time of late.

I am glad that you have had some good news on your family at last. A long 24 hours for you!

News of the quake has reached our papers today - it looks and sounds so much worse than I imagined, and my heart goes out to everyone affected by it. Mother Nature is giving some parts of the world a very rough time.

Glad your relatives are OK. It certainly was bad and the wait to hear is forever.

I'm glad your relatives are safe - the earthquake really doesn't seem to be hitting the news here - my thoughts really go out to the people who live there...

Happy that they are safe Dale. I think it is about time you all got a break down there in the southern hemisphere! It's been an awful six months.

A relief for you to know all your own are safe but it is dreadful to think what Australia has had to cope with of late.
Fingers crossed they find for all the lost souls

So relieved you know your loved ones are all safe Dale. Christchurch is obviously a city you love very much. Me too and like you, I am grieving for it. Autumn has to be better for the Antipodes!

I am beginning to wonder what we have done down this end of the world to deserve all that has been happening.
We just have to hope it all turns around soon.

Sending our love...what a terrifying thing. We keep feeling thankful that at least with the flood we had some warning and could prepare a little. An earthquake is another thing altogether....pleased to hear your precious people are safe, and hope they can hang in there through the reclaiming of their homes. xx

Glad your rellies are safe Dale - re-building will be a long process - have only been there once but have good memories. 2011 can only improve from here I hope.
