Christchurch earthquake
I am afraid we have been rather diverted today by the dreadful earthquake in Christchurch. We have heard from one couple but not any news of our relations or other friends as yet. We have been rather glued to the telly. This is the Christchurch Cathedral which is the very heart of Christchurch. When I was there as a university student I actually played the organ a few times.
This is it today.
All we can hope is that the city and the people can recover somehow. The restaurant we went to in August which was devastated in September's earthquake, is apparently nearly ready to re-open but who knows now....
Ian is still milking his birthday and we are off to dinner with Val and Jim tonight.

I haven't heard our news today yet, so this came as a shock. Do hope your family and friends are safe. The damage to that beautiful cathedral is dreadful, but sometimes there can be widespread damage yet no loss of life.
I hope you hear good news of your family and friends soon Dale. We've been glued to the TV and internet all morning as my travelling son arrived in Christchurch just five days ago. A worrying few hours but have just heard he is safe and staying with a local family.
I do hope your family and friends are safe Dale. This is so sad for Christchurch and New Zealand.
Hope that your friends and family are able to get in touch with you soon. A worrying time for you!
My thoughts are with you at the moment. All of this is just unbelievable. I hope all your friends and family will be accounted for, safely of course. Please know I am thinking about you and yours.
Dale everytime we went skiing we stayed and loved Christchurch, it is just awful, hope your friends and family are ok.
Belated Birthday wishes to Ian.
I hope you get good news soon Dale of all your loved ones. Everyone there is very much in our minds.
Our thoughts are with you in this worrying time, it seems at the moment there is one terrible event after the other. Hope you have good news soon of your friends and relatives.
I hope and pray that your family and friends are safe.
What a terrible tragedy.
How much more can we take at this end of the world?!
Oh Dale! I'm so sorry about the cathedral! Some info and pics on BBC America tonight! Saying prayers for all that you know and everyone else in the area!

Hi Dale - the news about Christchurch is still awful. My son and his wife who live on the edge of Latimer Square are coming up to Auckland for some time out. They worshipped at the cathedral and are devastated by its destruction. As a Sth. Canty. girl myself, I am so feeling for the folk in Christchurch and have yet to hear about a niece, a nephew and their respective families.
Hi! Dale and Ian,
Hope you hear from your relatives soon, when Ian told me yesterday there had been another quake in Christchurch, like lots of people I had no conception of how bad it was. My heart and my prayers go out to all the people in Christchurch and their loved ones.
We are so sad to hear what's happened Dale - we hope your family are found safe and well.
